About Rooftop Solar Scheme

Rooftop Solar Scheme is being run by the MINISTRY of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India to generate electricity by installing solar panels on the roof of houses under which 40% grand amount is being given by ministry for the first 3KW and then 20% grand amount 43 KW to 10 KW.

Earlier this scheme was being operated by Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited. Presently the scheme is being implemented by the state distributed Corporation. This tender process is being done by Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited after this the scheme will be operated by the respective distribution Corporation (i.e. Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, and Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited).

The main component of a grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system

• Solar Panels

The Solar panel converts Solar energy into direct current (DC). Crystalline silicon Solar photovoltaic panels are most commonly used in Solar rooftop systems. Multiple panels are connected side by side to form arrays as per the desired capacity of the system.

•Solar Inverter

The inverter converts the variable direct current output of solar photovoltaic panels into Alternative Current power.

•Module mounting structure

This is the support structure that holds the solar photovoltaic panels in place for full system life and is exposed to all weather conditions. These are normally fixed at a particular angle orientation in the case of solar rooftop systems.

•Metres

Meters are used to record the generation or consumption of electricity.

•Balance of system

These consists of cables, switchboards, junction boxes, earthing system, circuit breaker, fuses, and lightning protection systems.

Benefits of the scheme

  1. Saving on electricity bills by the consumer.
  2. Utilization of available vacant roof space no additional land required.
  3. No additional required for transmission and distribution lines.
  4. Reduce transmission and distribution losses as power consumption and generation are collected.
  5. Low gestation period.
  6. Improvement in tall-end grid voltages and reduction of system congestion.
  7. Long-term energy and ecology security by a reduction in carbon emission.
  8. Better management of Daytime peak load by DISCOM/utility.
  9. Meeting of the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPOs) of obligated entities.
  10. Promoting public participation in energy production.

Features of the scheme

  • A Rooftop Solar Power plant with a maximum capacity of 80% of the power load sanctioned by the consumer is installed after the issue of NOC by the DISCOM.
  • Out of the energy produced by the rooftop plant the energy flow in the grade is adjusted in the electricity bill of the consumer.
  • Net access energy flow into the grid, if this energy is more than 100 units, is paid by the distribution corporation at the rate of rupees 3.14 per unit only to the consumer in the domestic sector.
  • If the net surplus energy is less than 100 units, this energy is adjusted in the upcoming electricity bill.

FAQs

Question 1: What types of roofs are suitable for rooftop solar systems?

Ans:- Any type of roof having sufficient load-bearing capacity.

Question 2: Can the rooftop solar be installed for only captive views without being connected to the grid?

Ans:- Yes, the plants which are not connected to the grid are normally called behind-the-meter plants and MNRE subsidy is not available for such plants even for the residential sector.
